Water vapour is removed from compressed air by passing it over an adsorbent desiccant material. As the air contacts the adsorbent material, water vapour transfers from the wet air to the dry desiccant, however, adsorbent materials have a fixed adsorption capacity and once this capacity is reached, they must be regenerated or replaced. Therefore, to provide a continuous supply of clean, dry compressed air, adsorbent dryers utilise two chambers of desiccant material and at any one time, whilst one chamber is on-line, drying the incoming compressed air, the other is either off-line, being regenerated or is re- pressurised, ready to come on-line.

The CompAir AX-Series uses twin desiccant towers and strategically positioned valves to dry the compressed air. The compressed air produced is thoroughly dried as it is directed through the on-line desiccant-filled tower of the dryer. As the desiccant in this tower adsorbs moisture from the air, the desiccant in the dryer’s offline tower is purged of moisture and readied for use.

At the heart of any compressed air treatment solution is the dryer, it’s purpose, to remove water vapour, stop condensation, corrosion and in the case of adsorption dryers, inhibit the growth of micro- organisms. CompAir dryers have been 100% function and performance tested at our plant in Fogliano, Italy to ensure the highest standard of performance, delivering compressed air purity in accordance with ISO8573-1.2010, Class 2 dirt (1 micron) and Class 2 water (-40°C pressure dew point).

Vacuum Regeneration Adsorption Dryers Vacuum regeneration dryers do not use process air to regenerate the adsorbent desiccant material, instead they use ambient air for both regeneration and cooling (reducing energy consumption and process air loss). For regeneration, the ambient air is heated and pulled across the desiccant bed using a vacuum pump. To cool the desiccant and ensure it is at the optimum temperature for adsorption, the heat source is simply removed, and the desiccant cooled to ambient temperature. Vacuum regeneration dryers can be supplied with electric heaters or heat exchangers that utilise existing heat sources on site (steam, hot oil, etc.)
